Why the Hardware-Store Copy Does Not Start Your Car

Nearly every car built since the late 1990s has a transponder chip in the key. A kiosk or hardware store copies the metal blade only — the copy will open your door and then do absolutely nothing in the ignition, because the immobilizer has never met its chip.
