What Goes on Commercial Doors

Grade 1 Leversets and Knobs

ANSI Grade 1 is the commercial standard for a reason: the levers survive being yanked by a hundred people a day, the internal springs do not die by winter, and ADA-compliant levers keep you on the right side of accessibility rules. Builder-grade Grade 3 hardware on a shop door is money thrown away twice — once at purchase, once at replacement.

Storefront Hardware: Adams Rite and Narrow-Stile Doors

Most NYC storefronts are narrow-stile aluminum and glass, and standard locks simply do not fit them — they take deadlatches, hookbolts, and paddle hardware of the Adams Rite pattern. Mortise Locks and High-Security Cylinders

Office buildings run on mortise hardware — a lock body in a deep door pocket, far tougher than cylindrical locks. We install new mortise locksets and fit high-security cylinders — Medeco M4, Mul-T-Lock MT5+, restricted keyways that make unauthorized copies impossible — into new or existing bodies. Exit Devices, Closers and Electric Strikes

The door is a system: lock, closer, and exit hardware have to work together or none of them work. We install panic bars — like the vertical panic bar we rebuilt at W 52nd St & 10th Ave in Hell's Kitchen this July — door closers like the Murray Hill install in May, and electric strikes tied into buzzers and access control, like the Times Square job in June.

Installation Quality Is the Product

Grade 1 hardware installed sloppily performs like Grade 3. Our installs get the boring details right: the bolt throws full-depth into a properly cut strike, the closer is tuned so the door actually latches instead of bouncing, the leverset is through-bolted so it does not loosen by spring. That is also why we install door reinforcement — latch guards and astragals on rear and service doors, where every burglar starts.

We key new locks into your existing system, or design a master key hierarchy so the owner carries one key, managers carry another, and staff keys open exactly what they should.
